Investopedia tells us that a Problem Child is one of the four categories (quadrants) in the (Boston Consulting Group (BCG) growth-share matrix that represents the division within a company that has a small market share within a rapidly expanding industry.

A problem child or question mark requires investment capital in order to expand and grow. However, uncertainty exists in this division’s profitability because success is not guaranteed.
